Well guess what? The West redirecting its aid and weaponry to Israel, which as we know always gets priority, would ve really fucking bad for Ukraine.

I think they mean insurgency as in resistance in occupied areas.
Welp, there goes my hope that maybe Eastern European democracy will survive.
Can Europe stop trying (and failing miserably) to compete with America’s stupidity?
Could be just me but my impression is that Ukraine is facing stiffer resistance now than in 2022-2023 when they were retaking one territory after another. At the very least they have their logistics in order now… is what I wanted to say, but I can’t find a source corroborating that. Ignore what I said I guess.
Is anyone else wondering why the heck Russia is picking a fight with Europe? I mean this isn’t the 19th century colonizing resource-rich territory isn’t the end all be all of foreign policy anymore, so why alienate what would naturally be their biggest trade partners? It feels like even if this all rolls out exactly as Putin wants it (which is more likely than I would like to admit), the juice is simply not worth the squeeze.
Didn’t we laugh at how bad the Russian army is for years?
They were really bad three years ago, but if I’m not mistaken they’ve gotten themselves in shape while the West was busy pretending deescalation was ever an option.
Okay now that I think about it that was an overreaction, but I still think such rules are completely unnecessary and ripe for misuse as a way of silencing minorities and opposition.
They wanted to have political discourse be through, you know, discourse, instead of through other means
Why though? What is gained by putting such a rule in place?
It’s getting kinda repetitive saying “it’s happening” every time it’s happening, but yeah. It’s happening.
Uh… This person’s whole job is to make political statements.
While the Bundestag does not have a detailed dress code, its rules require MPs and visitors to dress “in keeping with the prestige” of the institution.
Whoever put this rule on the books needs to be slapped across the face.
It’s a lot easier to say things with the government’s (and, perhaps more importantly, oligarchy’s) blessing than without. This doesn’t matter much for the average Joe, but for public figures, politicians and celebrities—who all have an outsized ability to direct national discourse—it’s an important development. What we’re seeing is demands for action against Israel spreading from the left to the political center.
I think the idea is that America alienated Europe enough that they have a freer hand to antagonize Israel.
Fascism in Germany is coming along quite nicely. Someone give me a heads up when the Fourth Recht is deporting all Muslims.
Yeah… no. This guy will block what little good the government tries to do, blame it on immigrants, gays and the left and set the table for a rightwing victory come next election. This is bad.
This is all well and good, but here’s the thing: You’re assuming that the left is a unified bloc of rational actors, which is just not true. A significant fraction of left-leaning activists put the lesser evil in charge and then bow out until the next election—or worse, actively run defense for said lesser evil. Remember when you couldn’t criticise Biden (later Harris) for supporting genocide on Lemmy? Well I do, and I can state with 100% certainty that nothing about that was unified or rational. The left does nothing to stop centrists from handing power to the right and then act surprised when the right is in power, as most aptly shown in America’s last election.
In the German election with a somewhat center left government the center lost votes, whereas the left and right won.
Die Linke certainly won a bunch of votes, but by far that election was a disaster for the left and a victory for the right. Die Linke winning 25 more seats does not counteract AfD winning 69. If this is what you consider a win then you should look at the numbers again and tell me who is going to end up in charge at this rate.
They even win from time to time, as can be by same sex marriage, new climate laws and so forth.
They win sometimes, but lose a lot. The wins are nice, but this is simply not a sustainable dynamic, as seen from the rise of the far right and climate targets becoming less and less likely to fulfill by the day.
On the other hand the left refuses to get off its ass unless the right is in charge, so extra time ends up being meaningless. Note that I’m not arguing for accelerationism, but “if we had just another four years…” is half the reason Western democracies are in this mess.
I hate how we can’t be sure which one they’ll choose.
Yeah… no. Romania’s democracy is currently teetering on the brink and trying its damnedest not to fall in. Romanians, you are not safe yet.
Someone tell this guy that there are plenty of migrants who are fully capable doctors and engineers who would love to work with their degree in Germany but aren’t licensed to do so.
